A fixed dental bridge may be indicated when you are missing a tooth. The teeth on both sides of the gap are crowned. These teeth, also called abutment teeth, serve as anchor teeth for the false replacement tooth (i.e. pontic) in the middle. A fixed bridge is cemented into place, thus can only be removed by a dentist.

On instances when you have two broken down teeth next to the missing tooth, a dental bridge would be preferable to an implant. This is because those teeth need crowns for extra protection.
